Baby Raccoons Anyone?

About 3:30 a.m. I heard snap, crackle and leaves rustling. Thinking its a bear, I got a little nervous and curious. Then sounds of scratching on the neighbor's garbage can. I couldn't stand it anymore so I got up and peered out the window with my phone flashlight smashed up against the glass. I saw nothing. R. sleepily suggested raccoons but I saw nothing.

6 a.m. and I hear R. telling me to "come see and bring your camera." this is what he found. Yes, raccoons. 4 young siblings looking at us as if to say, "you gonna help us?" so I snapped a few pictures and R. tipped over the can to let them loose. Three came running out and the fourth needed a little extra tipping of the can, obviously the least confident of the four. Off they ran through the wooded area toward the tree they live in. I was wondering where mom was.

They were soooo adorable.

Life at camp is never boring.

Thrifted Vintage Lawn Chair

Shady spot found on this expected 93 degree day (I was told in the sun it got to 103.) Sitting in my near mint lawn chair from the 70s. Reading 'A Small Furry Prayer' while I wait for new tires to be put on the Rav -- cha ching. A slow-leak-flat-tire brought the low tread to my attention. After paying property taxes this morning, it was not really on my list to spend a chunk more money today, but alas, safety first safety always.

Howie Goes Home

Howie got his beard shaved off last week. It was a knotted mess, mostly from sticking his snout through the grass, eating the dirt and making holes in the ground. Add drinks of water and you've got a fine tangle.

A few days ago a Schnauzer lover and liaison that I've become friendly with over the last 8 years of rescue, Sue, posted Howie on her blog, 'Idyll Haven' and asked Tom Ryan of 'Following Atticus' fame to post Howie on his Facebook page, and he did.

The Mom that put an application in for Howie saw the post...she knew he was the one, they had been looking at Mini's for the last year and wasn't feeling any connections...until now.

The family came to our campsite today with their Schnauzer Humphrey and it just worked perfectly. Such a nice family with a long history of Schnauzer ownership. The two teenagers fell for him as well. It took some time for Howie, but the stars aligned.

Thanks Sue for your foresight.
