Nantucket Quick Trip

Bye bye mainland....

Hello Nantucket...

Flying into Nantucket for a few days. Work related. Or maybe I should say, "work as an excuse to hang out in Nantucket for a few days." What we talked about for a minute or two is which rooms would get painted. Essentially the colors will change a little and since they trust my choices, I don't even have to look at color samples until I come back in April. Yes, this could have been done at home but Chuck and I felt it best we come to the house to make the decisions. wink wink.

My view in the sitting area as I peruse magazines.

It looks Nantucket-y doesn't it? The yellow walls will change slightly...to a brighter yellow.

Unfortunately, the 3 day trip was cut short due to the impending storm. We might not have been able to get back on Wednesday and pushing it into Thursday or Friday would throw Chuck's planned vacation day of leave for CA totally off. So we'll be heading out soon and probably get into CT right before the storm starts.

This is one of those things where one will be pissed if it doesn't snow the expected inches, because we could have stayed for a couple more days of relaxin'. But, since I will be home, I don't really want it to snow a lot because it will mean shoveling a lot. Catch 22.

The nice thing about snow storms is that there's no guilt in staying in and hanging out and doing what I like to do best...putz and maybe bake something.

I hope if you get bombarded, you are able to just chill, too.

Beauty and the Beach

Sunday was grey when we went to 'Chuck's Beach'. (our friend Chuck has named different beaches after himself and his grandchildren. These are accessible via dune paths.)

Wednesday was sunny and gorgeous when we went to 'Crab Beach'. (given it's name by Chuck due to the amount of Fiddle crabs on the inlet.)

Both days were awesome and because we're on Nantucket, every day is a beautiful day no matter the weather.

Nantucket in February

Perusing the Nantucket pictures finally, and oh how far away it seems since being there. Time is funny like that. It was a relaxing, do nothing, eat, drink, read, watch movies and take walks on the beach week.

The dogs loved it, too.

It is the home of  Bella's parents that we were lucky enough to be invited to stay in. The house is about a 1/2 mile from the beach. We walked dirt roads in the dunes, threw balls in the field, walked the beach. They were all exhausted the rest of the day.

Bug had her nose to the ground, R. calls her his little Retriever 'cuz she's a tracker. She's usually good at a recall but her nose and mind were on one thing on this beach...I imagine it was the dog that had walked the sand with it's owner, a little bit before us.

Bella stayed with us and then spent another 8 days back home here. She was so happy to have R. around to walk her and play with her, there in Nantucket and here at home. She lovvvvves him.

Hanzie and Bug in Nantucket

He had a tough time being there...

Life is so tough.

A few needed days away. More pics to come.

I'm not lost, just couldn't be found

If you've been checking up on me, I've been away and since back, catching up with things. Five weeks on vacation...the best 5 weeks weather-wise of the whole summer. Oh, how the sun shone and the air was warm. 5 weeks you ask? oh, yes... Don't think it was all glamorous on an isolated island somewhere...only one week was like that, the rest was in the Mountains of the Berkshires prettying up a newly acquired camper and campsite.

Who knew I'd ever be a camper? Actually, it's quite beautiful and only an hour and a half away from home so if for some reason you need to fly back for something, it's not too much of a problem...especially when we have the motorcycles with us. It's a beautiful ride on the bike.

It's quite peaceful and relaxing and just far enough away so all those thoughts that go on in your head when you aren't home...about the house, work, etc....are gone. Even though we're working around the site, it's outside, the weather was great, and we all work as a team. Like on this....

Well, R. did the work, we just put a rock in now and again to fill up a space and help it's structure. He's been doing all the heavy lifting....and loves it. But, his girls and I are proving ourselves as wonderful assistants....and food makers. Hey, a man has to eat in order to keep working hard!

One week was spent on Nantucket, though. We visited with friend's there that own a home about a half mile from the beach. I've been there several times during the Winter months to do artwork on their walls, but this was the first time during the summer. They have such a wonderful feeling home and 3 of my traveling co-horts were instantly comfortable. The weather was absolutely perfect for us. We spent time on the beach and collected many seashells. We took early morning walks to the beach and saw 'Mr. Seal' bobbing his head up every once in awhile checking out to see if we were still there. We had wonderful dinners together at night and enjoyed reading and relaxing all day. Town Center can be a little crazy so we only ventured in for a few hours of window shopping and, of course, got an ice cream cone. Love ice cream. AND, we happen to be there the weekend of the Nantucket Demolition Derby. We watched 3 heats (I learned that that is what they are called) and it was kind of exciting. We all picked a car to win, I think it was that that made it exciting -- the competition -- well, for me anyway. Although, you couldn't really help but shout something out when you saw a good hit.

So, I'm back, getting back into the swing of meeting with clients, working on some jobs and the forever on-going task of house stuff. Maybe it will be done before I die -- I'm thinking there's a better chance it won't be -- and I don't plan on dying anytime soon.
