Baby Raccoons Anyone?

About 3:30 a.m. I heard snap, crackle and leaves rustling. Thinking its a bear, I got a little nervous and curious. Then sounds of scratching on the neighbor's garbage can. I couldn't stand it anymore so I got up and peered out the window with my phone flashlight smashed up against the glass. I saw nothing. R. sleepily suggested raccoons but I saw nothing.

6 a.m. and I hear R. telling me to "come see and bring your camera." this is what he found. Yes, raccoons. 4 young siblings looking at us as if to say, "you gonna help us?" so I snapped a few pictures and R. tipped over the can to let them loose. Three came running out and the fourth needed a little extra tipping of the can, obviously the least confident of the four. Off they ran through the wooded area toward the tree they live in. I was wondering where mom was.

They were soooo adorable.

Life at camp is never boring.

  1. Too cute!
Have you seen that YouTube video of the bear cubs stuck in a dumpster? The guy backs up a truck to it and the woman in the back puts a ladder in and then they drove off fast because Mom was coming! It was so cool seeing the little cubs climbing out on that ladder.
    Wait a minute!
    Was that you & R?

    1. Yes, I saw the video and thought it ingenious...and so cute when the babies crawled out, but I did worry about mom being around.

Hee Hee, no it wasn't me and R. but it would be something I'd make him be a part of. With his smarts he'd do it right and I'd be right there egging him on and he'd be reminding me to stay out of the way 'cuz mom's around.
